About Karl Ferd. Vilhelm Arnesen (1865-1948):
Arnesens father was a skipper and a builder of model ships so Arnesens interest for maritime started at a very young age. Later when Arnesen was educated at the academy of arts he has given the highly esteemed honour to accompany the Danish Royal family on their many travels abroad. Arnesen was known for his detailed and powerful seascapes with large sail ships and often portrayed famous historical events. Arnesen travelled and worked all around the world and his paintings was in high demand. Arnesen is known to be the last of the great old national marine artists. The paintings of Arnesen has been exhibited at the world fair in Chicago, Museum of arts in Lübeck, Germany and frequently at Charlottenborg.

Andersen is most known for his excellent series of landscapes from the northern parts of Copenhagen. His works also include still-life’s and flower scenes. Andersen lived and worked in France from 1919-1925 and was so successful that he received the prestigious award “Mention Honorable” in Paris. 1923. Andersen was also frequently exhibited in Paris at Salon d´Automme where especially his flower and garden scenes were much successful. Andersen returned to Copenhagen in 1925 where he worked and exhibited with the two Art unions, Dyrehavens malere and Kunstnerforeningen af 18. November. Michael Ancher grew up on the island of Bornholm. When he was 16 he began training as a clerk at the Kalø Manor on the Djursland Peninsula. Here he began to draw and paint in his free time and this led to him gaining admission to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he was Pupil of Wilhelm Marstrand and Frederik Vermehren. Michael Ancher came to Skagen in 1874 when he was 25. He was among the first artists that began to show an interest in Skagen, and he was the only one that settled permanently in the town. Michael Ancher is famous for his depictions of the Skagen fishermen, and particularly of the drama of life and death involved in the many rescue operations that were so much a part of the fishermen’s lives. In his large-scale figure paintings he combined the classical composition principles of historical paintings with captivating realism. Michael Ancher has been exhibited world wide.

Asmussen worked abroad most of his carrier and spent many years in the German cities Luzern and Rothenburg. Asmussen begun his carrier with working on theater decors and traveled all around Europe to decorate Europe’s finest theaters in Germany, Norway, Italy and Austria. Later Asmussen returned to Denmark to concentrate on working with paintings. Educated at the Royal art academy at Copenhagen in 1847. Eilersen was one of the most popular Danish landscape artists of the late 19th century. Eilersen mostly worked landscapes from the island Fyn, and on forest scenes from northern Zealand. His works are known for their romantic charm and often worked with sunlit scenes at rivers or ponds. Many of Eilersens works have been compared with the likes of J.P. Möllers and P.C. Skovgaard. Baagoe was educated at the Royal academy of arts in 1844. Baagoe was primarily a marine artist and worked primarily on seascapes and shore scenes around the costs of Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. Baagoe traveled on many Scandinavian Navy vessels from 1842-1862, where he had the unique opportunity to work on the fantastic views from Norwegian fjords and Icelandic cliff shore scenes. Baagoes works were in high demand during his lifetime and he received many orders from Admirals, Captains and nobles around Europe. Many of his larger works were frequently shipped to United Kingdom where he was especially popular. Marie Bang (1833-1913):
Bang lived in a period where female artists were unwelcome and not allowed to attend the Art Academies. In spite of the difficult circumstances she managed to impress some of her male collages who later took her as their private pupil. Bang studied with the artists, E. Rasmussen Eilersen, N. Chr. Kierkegaard and F. Helsted. At the end of Bangs carrier she opened her own private art school where she encouraged and helped other female artists to get acknowledged in the art industries. About the artist:
Fritz Johannes Bentzen-Bilkvist was born in Oslo, Norway in 1865.He attended the Royal art academy in Denmark and was a pupil of the master painters P.S Kroyer, L. Tuxen and Fr. Schwartz. Bilkvist also became a close friend of the artist Godfred Christensen who inspired Bilkvist to work on Danish landscapes. Bentzen Bilkvist traveled a lot in Denmark to paint and was known for his detailed and romantic landscapes from Zealand and “himmel bjerget”. Besides working with landscapes Bilkvist also worked as a decorative porcelain painter at Bing & Grondahl and made many drawings and designs to both furniture’s and lamps.

Beier was a pupil of Rostrup-Böyesen and attended his art school.
In the beginning of Beiers carrier he painted many naturalistic landscapes and portraits but later he changed his style completely and created an art form he named “Color architecting”. The modern artworks of Beier are known for their great precision and passion between the form and colors he used. Many of his compositions were later used for poster designs.

Bille worked and experimented with many painting techniques like, realism, impressionism and pointillism. In his early days he traveled a lot in France, where he did a long series of charming café and street scenes from Paris. He later also traveled around Scandinavia where he primarily worked on portraits, land and seascapes. Due to personal mental issues, Bille slowed down his painting in 1930 and later only worked when he was pressured by public demand.

Educated at the school of P. Rostrup Böyesens in 1945. Educated at the Royal art academy in 1957. Pupil of Vilhelm Lundström and William Scharff. Bloch worked in Paris and Italy and is known for his colorful and strong landscapes from his travels in Europe. Bloch also worked on theater decors and backgrounds for the Royal Oprah house and the Royal ballet in Copenhagen. His most famous works were the decors from Madame Butterfly in 1953 and the décor of the Shakespeare play Hamlet. Many of the works of Bloch was exhibited at the Carnegie Hall in New York.

About Sven Brasch ( 1886-1970):
Educated at art school in Copenhagen 1906. Attended art schools in Germany from 1906-1908 and in Paris from 1909-1914. Brasch started his carriere as a cartoonist for both foreign and Danish newspapers. He later worked on poster designs for fashions shows and Exhibitions. Brasch is especially known for his lean and slender females and his designs were an important influence to Early Art deco in European graphical art. Brasch was himself strongly influenced from early French poster designs from world war one and a great admirer of the English Beggarstaff Brothers. Brasch archived world wide fame and admiration for his many poster designs at the World cinema. About Johan Ulrik Bredsdorff (1845-1928):
Educated at the Royal Art academy in Copenhagen in 1868 where he was a pupil of Wilhelm Kyhn. Later he attended the model school of F. Vermehren in 1876. Bredsdorff was a close friend of Godfred Christensen and the landscapes of Bredsdorff have often been compared to the work of Christensen. Bredsdorff is most known for his special light and often painted sunlit landscapes with sunbeams entering the trees or reflecting a lake or a pond. Bredsdorff worked later as a drawing teacher at Birkeröd school in Denmark. Bregnö was educated at the school of fine arts in 1898. Pupil of Hans Lamberg-Petersen from 1902-1905. Worked with figurines in bronze and porcelain for Bing & Gröndal and Natalie Krebs. And worked with figurines in silver for Kay Bojesen. Bregnö was one of the most popular and requested artists in Denmark. There was never a sculptor more copied or reproduced in Denmark than him and he was the inspiration for many Danish sculptors . Bregnö was an outstanding gifted artist and was highly inspired by the masters like Michelangelo and Rodin. Bregnö was known for the remarkable and realistic details found in his works. In the beginning of his carrier Bregnö worked primarily with Classic statues like his portrays of “ Samson “ and “ Hercules” Later he worked with more contemporary themes like women and children at work, figures from the tales of H.C Andersen and water fountains. Bregnö has traveled all around the world and worked in countries like : Italy and France (1905-1906). Germany ( 1907-1908). Norway and Sweden ( 1915-1916) and Egypt and Greece ( 1920) Many of the works of Bregnö can be found in Copenhagen, like the large statue entitled “ Nurses with children” located in front of Bispebjerg Hospital.

Dorph was educated at the Royal art academy in 1879 and attended Kröyers Artists school in 1884 where he was a pupil of both P.S Kröyer and L. Tuxen. Dorph is primarily known for his many detailed portraits of famous Danish poets and politicians, but is also known for his detailed still-lives and landscapes. Dorph was the founder of the Danish art newspaper “ Kunst” in 1899 and later became the head of the “ kunstindustriskolen” an art school for women.Besides painting, Dorph has also decorated many buildings in Copenhagen. About the artist:
Godfred Christensen began painting from a very early age on, and archived such a talent that he became accepted at the Royal art Academy when the artist was only 15 in 1860. During his years at the Academy he worked hard on painting especially forest sceneries and tried to combine early French impressionism with Danish naturalism. Christensen was also a pupil of the Danish master painter F.C. Kiærskou. In 1869 Christensen traveled to Paris and meet many of the French artists of the school of “Fontainebleau” and became highly inspired of their painting teknics. Later that year Christensen traveled to Rom and meet the Belgium artist Xavier de Monthier and Italian artist Enrico Nardini. The French art influenced Christensen the most and continued working on translating the French painting methods into Danish golden age. Today the works of Godfred Christensen is considered one of the mayor art links between the 19th and 20th century.

Sören Josva Christensen (1892-1948) Listed Danish artist

About Sören Josva Christensen 1892-1948):
Josva Cristensen was primarily a landscape painter but is also known to do portraits. Josva Christensen moved to the Danish village Skörping Stationsby in 1920. There he did a long series of forest scenes and landscapes from the known Danish mountains “Rebild Bakker” This special location attracted many other Danish artists like Harald Foss, Peder Mønsted, Harald Gjersing, Hjort-Nielsen, Ejnar Gjessing and Kaj Drews. Josva Christensens landscapes were always known to be sunlit and colourful yet during the second world war his landscapes became darker and more melancholic. Josva Christensen even changed his signature from “Josva” to “ Josva Christensen” in fear he would be mistaken for a Jew and then be forced to Leave. Pupil of L.P Jörgensen. Educated at the Royal art academy in 1917 where he was a pupil of C. Aarsleff. Christensen worked for the Royal porcelain company where he primarily worked with figurines and sculptures. Christensen also worked for Henrik & Else. Christensen is known for his great details and was influenced by the Danish sculptor Knud Bröndsted. Christensen worked mostly in Scandinavia but also traveled and worked in Paris in 1913. Christensen has been exhibited at charlottenborg from 1922-1952.

Johannes Meyer Andersen (1918-?) Well-Listed Danish artist.

About the artist:
Johannes Meyer came from a middle-class Danish family, who worked in the fish industry. Mayer’s father was a close friend and soldier buddy of Jean Gauguin, who came and lived with the Mayer family during the summers. Jean Gauguin was a great influence for Johannes Meyer and he began painting already as a young child. Meyer was only 18 when he debuted at “KE” The artists fall exhibition in 1936, and there he got a great deal of attention. Wilhelm Lundstrom who was functioning as a censor at the exhibition, personally encouraged Meyer to continue painting. Meyer continued working on his amazing painting skills and attended the technical painting school where he was taught by Martin S. Rasmussen. Meyer became very popular during his lifetime, and could afford working as a full time artist for the rest of his life. Meyer have been exhibited in Denmark, Brussels, New York and Miami.

Bio:
Einer Parslev did portraits, landscapes and flowerpaintings. Especially in his landscapes you can see the strong influence by his fellow Danish artist L.A Ring. From 1950, Parslev worked a lot with the light and shadows in his paintings. Einer Parslev belonged to the group of artists that didn´t got influenced by mordernisme or changes in art. They wanted to uphold the traditional Danish values as it was before the turn of the centery. Parslev have been exhibited in Denmark and Canada.
